The Dept of Anaesthesiology is one of the largest post-graduate teaching department of this college. There are adequate number of professor, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Senior Residents attached with this department as per MCI norms. Post-graduate training ( M.D- Anaesthesiology) had started from the year 2009. 2 seats were allotted for the first batch and they passed out from this institute in 2012. On the subsequent years, 4 seats are allotted per year. Medical Council of India has recognized the P.G course(R.N.262(22)2012/MED dated 10.10.2012 )|
The para-medical training ( Anaesthesia Technicians) is also given in this department. 18 candidates are given training per year and are placed in various reputed hospitals after their training.
LSAS training: Every year 4 medical officers from the Primary Health Centres or Govt Hospitals are given training for Life Saving Anaesthetic Skills under the Central Govt Scheme.
III. OUT-PATIENT PARTICULARS
Dept of Anaesthesiology is having its own pre-anaesthetic assessment clinic in the out-patient block. All the patients, posted for surgery are examined and screened by an Assistant Professor, 2 post-graduates and a CRRI.
IV. OPERATION THEATRES
There are 6 well equipped operation theatres with twin tables for the elective surgeries posted under various specialities like General surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Family welfare, E.N.T, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Urology, Plastic surgery and Paediatric surgery. Apart from that, there is an exclusive emergency operation theatre for the emergency surgeries which function 24 hours a day. All the theatres are well equipped with state of art equipments.

V. ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
This department is having a well stocked Departmental Library apart from the College central library, a museum and a LCD projector fitted conference hall for its exclusive use. Regular theory classes, P.G symposia, Journal club meetings and case discussion are done and all the Post-graduates are encouraged to take part in the discussion.
Every year World Anaesthesia Day is celebrated in the department by conducting P.G Quiz, Essay competition and guest Lectures.
In the year 2011, an industrial visit to the Oxygen distillation and bottling plant was made to Madurai by all the Post-graduate to learn about the method of gas bottling and safety measures adopted in it.
The following scientific papers are published in the e-journal, run by The Tamilnadu M.G.R.Medical University, Chennai.
PAPER PRESENTATION IN THE CONFERENCE:
In the year 2011, a scientific paper titled “Attenuation of injection pain of Propofol with intravenous Diclofenac sodium” was presented in the Tamilnadu State Anaestheisa conference held at Erode by our Post-graduate student Dr.Subhash kumar.
